Essentials You Should Bring When Sailing in the U.S. Virgin Islands

Have you been daydreaming of lounging on a tropical beach? Or sailing the open waters with a warm wind on your face, maybe watching the sunset after a day of swimming? Daydreaming is nice, especially if it’s been a while since your last vacation or if you’re struggling to get through a cold winter, but actually going to a tropical location is obviously much better.

Sail VI offers St. Thomas and St. John sailboat and catamaran charters that will make your best daydream a reality. From the moment you step on our sailboat to the very last second of your trip, our team will do everything we can to ensure that your day is perfect. We provide a delicious meal, all of the drinks you could want, and opportunities to see the beautiful ocean and wildlife of the U.S. Virgin Islands. Even though we will provide a variety of essentials, you’ll still want to make sure you have a few things to make your day comfortable, relaxing, and safe. If you have any questions about our sailing St. Thomas charters, don’t hesitate to reach out to Sail VI.

Toiletries

While you’re out on the water, there are a few things you may want to have so that you’re safe and comfortable all day long. Our sailing charters have space where you can get out of the sun if you need to, but sunblock is going to be incredibly important to protect your skin as you’re out in the water and laying in the sun relaxing. We recommend a sunblock that is at least SPF50. The sun and wind on the water can be intense, so lip balm will help keep your lips moist all day. And hair care items will help you feel and look your best. If you decide to wear makeup, it may be a good idea to bring some wipes or makeup remover, or use makeup that is waterproof.

Dry Bags For Electronics

The sailboat Liberty and the catamaran Justice are equipped with speakers so that you can listen to your favorite tunes on board; there isn’t any need to bring a portable speaker. But there are a few electronics that you definitely won’t want to forget, such as your phone, camera, and possibly binoculars. There are dozens of sites to see that you will want to capture with your camera, and of course all of the selfies. While your phone works well as a camera, you may also want to bring a traditional camera or a waterproof disposable camera so you can take pictures when you’re out in the water. Dry bags to carry your electronics will ensure that they don’t get damaged if water splashes on board.

Clothing

The most important item of clothing may be your swimsuit, but there are a few other pieces that you should consider bringing. Protection from the sun is going to be important, so a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses are must-haves. Also consider bringing a light shirt or jacket, both to protect your shoulders from the sun, but also to keep you warm. A jacket can be especially nice to have if you’re going on a sunset cruise. Shorts or a skirt can be nice when you’re lounging on the boat, or a swimsuit cover-up. And bring water shoes and a pair of sandals to protect your feet.
