FAQs

Tell me about the boat!

Sailing Vessel Liberty loves to sail!

We have been as far north as New England and as far south as Trinidad, at the bottom of the Caribbean. She also loves to sail with guests, so welcome aboard and enjoy the day!

Liberty is a 44-foot ketch with spacious decks, cushioned seats, and a comfortable cockpit that is shaded by a large fiberglass bimini roof.

A Bruce Roberts design, Liberty is known for its thick hull and offshore seaworthiness.

Fully equipped with GPS, VHF and SSB radios, and a host of other safety equipment, Liberty is ready for anything.

Because it is a live-aboard boat, the best sailing, handling and comfort can be found on Liberty.

How do I get on and off the boat?

Sailing charters in St. Thomas requires a very short dingy ride to the sailboat, after which you will climb a short ladder and board at the rear of the boat. If you are agile and relatively fit, you should have no problems. Please be aware that guests will need the flexibility to be able to comfortably lift one leg at a time over a 15-inch bar at the top of the boarding ladder.

How do I reserve Liberty?

Just call or email us and we’ll find a date and time that works for you.

What should I wear?

Casual, comfortable clothing is the norm on Liberty. Please wear shoes with a light-colored, rubber-sole (i.e. sneakers) or just go barefoot (that’s what we usually do). If you plan to go swimming or snorkeling, please wear or bring your bathing suit as well as a towel. The Caribbean sun can be quite strong, so we advise guests to use non-aerosol sunscreen and/or a sun shirt or rash guard.

Will I get seasick?

If you are concerned, you should consult your doctor beforehand and see if he or she would recommend any remedies you can bring along.

Is it OK to bring our own food and drinks?

Certainly! There is room in our spacious cooler, and other non-cold items can be stowed until needed. Our catered charters offer everything you need, but feel free to bring along anything special you wish to eat or drink.

What about safety?

We are one of the larger day charter boats, built for safety, comfort and good times. We adhere to all federal, state and international safety standards, and Captain Ryan is a US Coast-Guard Certified captain in excellent standing. Relax and enjoy yourself!

What about the weather?

We listen to, watch, and read detailed information about weather every day. Fortunately, the weather is usually pretty great. We will not go out in lightening, confused seas or other uncomfortable weather. If this happens, we will gladly reschedule for a mutually agreeable date. We will let you know if we need to reschedule.

How many people can Liberty accommodate?

Liberty can accommodate up to 12 guests.

What about gratuity?

Crew gratuity is not expected but always appreciated. The industry standard is 15-20%.
